PIMA COUNTY, (May 10, 2024) – The Pima County Board of Supervisors approved submitting the 2024-2025 Annual Action Plan to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) at its May 7 meeting.
Through the action plan, Pima County anticipates receiving $2,665,598 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds, pending federal approval, for the fiscal year 2024-25, which begins July 1.
CDBG funds, administered by Pima County’s Community & Workforce Development Department, are used to revitalize lower-income neighborhoods through housing rehabilitation, public facilities, infrastructure improvements, and public services.
Other HUD annual entitlement/formula grant programs in the 2024-2025 Annual Action Plan include:
- The Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) at $241,423 to address homelessness.
- The City of Tucson-Pima County Consortium HOME Investment Partnership Program (HOME) at $3,823,036 (City of Tucson at $2,789,646 and Pima County at $1,033,390) to promote affordable housing initiatives.
The Annual Action Plan outlines Pima County’s needs, priorities, and strategies for housing, social services, and community development programs. It also establishes policies and goals for the County and serves as its application for HUD annual entitlement funding.
Once approved, an estimated $3,940,411 in federal investment will be made available for eligible projects and activities that directly benefit Pima County residents.
“CDBG funds have been critical in supporting a wide array of initiatives,” said Community & Workforce Development Director Dan Sullivan. “These investments have strengthened the foundation of communities and fostered a sense of pride and resilience among county residents.”
The amounts requested by community organizations for CDBG and ESG funds, and total amount approved, can be found starting on page 8 of the Board of Supervisors agenda.
